Anime YouTubers

Animaster

Animaster

Animaster was the first anime YouTuber I have watched on YouTube. From stuff that people on YouTube say, he was one of the first anime YouTuber. But, even though his channel has been around for quite some time, he still inspired me to get into anime. What I really like about his videos is that even though they aren’t of the best quality, he presents many interesting points in his reviews and discussions. A lot of the videos on his channel are reviews about Gundam, and he was the first person that made me realize and appreciate the world of Gundam with its themes on politics and philosophy, and the other storytelling elements such as its world-building and the strong themes and messages presented in the series. Because of him, I decided to get into Gundam and started to watch the anime, as well as getting into Gunpla. This eventually led to my passion for anime. I would definitely recommend watching him channel, but he is currently on a two-year hiatus. However, he has announced that he will be coming back soon, so look out for that.

AnimeEveryday

AnimeEveryday

AnimeEveryday is another person that has completely changed my view on anime. His channel is primarily an anime reviewing and analysis channel. He expresses his thoughts on anime very clearly in his videos, and talks and explains a wide variety of topics. I think the most “life-changing” video that he made for me was his “History of Anime” series. Through that, I was able to appreciate the history of anime, and had a broader perspective on anime. I could appreciate where anime came from, how it changed over time, and where it is now. The goal of his channel is to “delve deeper into anime,” and from my experience at least, he has done a good job at that.

BakaShift

BakaShift

Bakashift makes very detailed reviews and expresses his thoughts really well. One of the things that surprised me was how passionate he is for mecha anime, which is rarely seen in the reviewing community. His channel content has a good amount of mecha-related reviews, and it’s very refreshing and relatable to see someone who has a passion for mecha anime like myself.

Bobsamurai Anime Review

BobSamurai Anime Reviews

Bob is another great anime reviewer. His has quite a large backlog of reviews, and talks about a wide range of topics. I personally find the videos where he expresses his thoughts on the anime community and anime industry the most interesting, and the video on “Anime Elitists vs Casualists” really changed my perspective on anime and allowed me to present a more forgiving and understanding nature when talking to people who have different interests in the types of anime they watch and has allowed me to be able for people to understand what I like and for me to understand what they like.

The Canipa Effect

The Canipa Effect

For me, the favorite part of this channel is the analysis and thoughts videos on anime. The level of research he puts into his videos is impressive, and he presents very interesting thoughts in his discussions. His level of research his videos have make me go like, “How does he know so much?” Then again, he has been into anime for quite a long time, and probably has picked up quite a bit of knowledge on the way. Still, very good and entertaining content.

KingoftheGundam79

KingoftheGundam79

This channel is dedicated entirely to mecha anime reviews, which is great because there aren’t many reviews of mecha anime out there, or at least in my experience, it’s hard to find. I think most people aren’t that interested in mecha anime, but for some like myself, it’s difficult to find reviews for it. So, if you’re someone who likes giant robot cartoons, be sure to check this guy out.

Digibro

Digibro

Digibro’s primarily does anime analysis. He analyses them to find out what them good or bad and how it all works together to create a good story. If you want really in-depth discussions that will blow your mind, Digibro is definitely one to check out.

DouchebagChocolat

DouchebagChocolat

This guy…I just don’t know what to say. DoucheBagChocolat, or Demolition D, creates a combination of really good videos and really crappy ones. His style is to combine humor and seriousness. When you watch Demo rant on any topic, he switches regularly between his humorous tone and his more serious and analytical point of view. His videos are not only funny, but also very informative. You should definitely watch his channel.

Einshine

Einshine

This is the first channel on this that isn’t an anime reviewing or analysis channel. He makes his channel content purely on what he wants to make. He has a Q&A video every two weeks or so, but other than that, there isn’t a regular type of content he makes. Einshine started his channel through making Minecraft videos, but over the course of three years or so, he has shifted his focuses towards anime related videos. But, I would say you should watch his channel, since it is very entertaining. Now, while my description may make this channel out as not providing any reasonable good content on anime, sometimes I found you just need some comedy, as you can’t always be serious about anime.

Gigguk

Gigguk

Gigguk has a similar style compared to Demolition D, and that’s combining comedy with his reviews to make them more entertaining. His videos are among some of the most influential videos I have seen, and I think that many has also found his videos very interesting. His “AZ Rants” in particular are excellent, and while at this point in my hobby I may disagree with some of the things he said, it was still one of the videos that shaped my views on anime.

Glass Reflection

Glass Reflection

Tristan “Arkada” Gallant was one of the first people to inspire me to get into anime. Back in January of 2015, I was chatting with my sister about a mecha anime called Code Geass. She recommended that I watch it, and so I was curious. When searching up a review on YouTube, I came across his Code Geass review (after all, it was at the top few). I started to be interested in it and watched the show. I really liked it, and after watching a few more of his videos, I began a marathon to watch all of his reviews. I was intrigued with anime, and I decided to get into it. While Animaster introduced me to Gundam, Glass Reflection gave me an appreciation for all the different genres and types of anime. Well, most of it, except for a few genres (hentai, ecchi, Boku no Pico).

Holden

HoldenReviews

Holden has a surprising amount of followers, and is quite well-known around the anime community. Why do I use the word “surprising?” Well, that’s because he and his buddy Gigguk are both known for their most regular upload – hiatus. Both of these guys don’t upload very often, and while Gigguk still has produced great content, I think Holden has far too few videos on his channel. His videos are good, but there are too few. He “uploads” more often, but those are livestreams. The reason why he does livestreams now is because he is currently in Japan, studying to be an animator. But, even though he uploads unfrequently (due to laziness), he is well-known for one reason: PodTaku, which we will talk about next.

PodTaku

PodTaku

PodTaku is an anime podcast hosted by various people in the anime community. Each episode is just a casual talk between members as they talk about the recent anime stuff and what’s been going on with each of the members. It’s great to listen to these guys as you can really learn a lot about anime and what they think about it and it’s just a great time in general. It’s not only fun to listen to, but you can pick up a lot of knowledge about anime while listening to it. Also, as mentioned previously, it has helped people who often go on hiatus (Gigguk and Holden) since they are too lazy to make videos gain more attention in the anime community. Hey, at least Gigguk mentioned that he was busy with work, so that’s an excuse. Holden had all the time before he went to Japan to make videos, but he didn’t. Oh well, at least he’s on PodTaku.

OKKO Anime Club

OKKO Anime Club

This is another great anime podcast on YouTube. While it hasn’t been around as long as PodTaku, it’s still great, and you can actually see the faces of the people talking. Some of the members of PodTaku are here as well, and unlike PodTaku which has regular members (and special guests sometimes), here they have regular members and a special guest almost every episode. I like it for many of the reasons why I like PodTaku: its entertaining hosts and informative and interesting talks. Just note that what many of these people talk about are not absolute, and they can be wrong. So, it’s good to listen to what they say and make you own opinions.

Mother's Basement

Mother’s Basement

This is an analysis and review channel, but not your usual type. They analyze some of the more underappreciated things in anime such as the openings and various little trivia like “How Powerful is One Punch Man?” While some may regard them as analyzing content that does even matter, I think there is a certain charm in overanalyzing anime openings. Just seeing them pick out things about the opening that I didn’t even realize was entertaining. If there is one thing to take away, it’s that after watching this channel, you will never look at openings the same ever again.

Misty Chronexia

Misty Chronexia

Misty Chronexia does mostly top-ten lists. While I don’t watch him that often, I do think that he makes some great lists, for the most part. Some lists I disagree with, but he gives good reasoning for why the show is good. So, if you like to look at top-ten lists to decide which anime to watch, this is a channel you should check out.

Shadow ACS

Shadow ACS

Shadow ACS is quite an underrated anime reviewer on YouTube. It took me a few months before I found his channel, but his reviews are worth watching. He goes into much more detail in show than a lot of other reviewer, and while some of his opinions on shows are different than most people, like his Sword Art Online and Fate/Stay Night review, he justifies why his opinions on the show. While he said that he loved Sword Art Online, which would have already attracted lots of hate comments, his reasoning for it is believable enough that he didn’t get as much hate. Shadow ACS is a channel you should watch for his excellent in-depth analysis on anime, and his believable reasoning for his opinions.

RC Anime

RCAnime

RC Anime is another great anime reviewer. While his channel is still quite new, the current content that he makes is great. While his older videos needed some work in terms of quality, his newer videos from around a year ago are outstanding. The analysis that he makes for anime is mind-blowing, and he makes some really great points. His channel is still growing, and there is so much more content that he can make. I will continue watching his channel because looking at the quality of videos he has produced, it shows that he can make great videos, and I’m looking forward to watching his future videos. I hope you can watch his videos, because they are excellent.

The Anime Man

The Anime Man

The Anime Man is a channel that I’ve been watching for quite some time now, and it has become one of my favorite YouTube channels to watch. Every day, I look forward to watch Joey’s (the guy who posts stuff on the channel if you couldn’t tell) video. I marathoned his whole channel during the summer, and even then I’m sure I have missed quite a few videos, especially his earlier ones. To be honest, I cannot think of a better name for his channel than “The Anime Man.” He does anime rants, reviews, anime games gameplay, Japanese 101, music covers and everything else that he does. He truly is the multi-purpose, multi-talented Anime Man. Oh, and don’t forget “Answer Me Senpai.” You cannot forget that even if you wanted to.

Culture Japan

Culture Japan

Danny Choo is quite a really great guy. On his blog, he writes and his work and life in Japan. This is the only anime-related website I will recommend, because I really haven’t found any other website to recommend. He writes some great stuff, and I think it is enlightening seeing him work hard towards his dreams and enjoying his life in Japan. His original goal for his blog is to share with people who life in Japan is like, as it is hard for those living outside the country to understand it. Nowadays, ever since he started production on his line of Smart Dolls, he hasn’t has quite enough time to post regularly. Still, I think it is worth reading his blog, and maybe be inspired by what he does in Japan.
